For a recent job application for a vintage marketing agency, I wanted to conceive a fashion label that represents upcylcing in a non-crafty light, more edgey rather than shabby chic.
I had the idea of a brand that takes discarded fabrics, using colour blocking to create cool upcyled clothes that doesn’t LOOK upcycled on first glance. The name BLOK came from ‘colour-blocking’, where I made the typography chunky and sliced like the fabric pieces themselves. For example, the logo design promo shot’s background image is made up of different fabrics (leather, lace etc) all in black.
This project was a great method to branch out from my usual handicrafted aesthetic, and I have new appreciation for geometrics and modernism.
